I’m Xiaohong Hou, Founder and Lead Instructor of China Bridge, and a Chinese language educator with over 24 years of international teaching experience.
Growing up in Luoyang, the ancient heart of Chinese civilization, my passion for teaching began early—helping my grandmother learn to read and supporting classmates who struggled in school. This spirit of patient, personalized guidance has shaped how I teach Chinese today, and that joy of guiding others has stayed with me ever since.

I received formal training in both Chinese linguistics and foreign language education, earning degrees from Henan University, Beijing Normal University, and New York University. Over the past two decades, I’ve taught Chinese at leading institutions in China and the United States, including Middlebury Chinese Summer School and New York University, where I’ve served as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Clinical Associate Professor.

My approach blends academic foundation with real-life communication, so you learn how Chinese is truly spoken — not just what’s in a textbook. Moreover, I'm engaged in helping you bridge language and culture, so you don’t just learn Chinese — you live it with understanding.
